Human Resources Institute of New Zealand Conference
22nd May 2012

Hey William,

I was at the HRINZ conference where you spoke on Tuesday and I really wanted to thank you for sharing your story and experience and let you know that I have the highest amount of admiration for you.

I have no doubt that what I took away from your presentation will stick with me forever, it really brought me down to earth. Your outlook on life is something most people can only strive towards.

Kind Regards,
Molly

Hi William

We briefly met at yesterday’s HRINZ conference and I grabbed one of your books…now I just owe you the money for it...

I think you’d be hard pushed to find anyone who couldn’t take something away from your talk.  I think the stand out for me was not only the courage and determination you have shown since the event on the mountain, but the determination you had beforehand...the fact you haven’t given up on the things you enjoy is truly inspiring.

Anyway, enough waffle from me. I look forward to reading the book.

All the best
Karen.

More about William:

William was mountaineering on Mt. Ruapehu when it erupted in September 2007. His legs were severely crushed by rocks, mud & snow. He became critically hypothermic; doctors and rescue authorities noted his survival as 'a miracle '. Under the cover of darkness and the threat of another eruption, retrieving William was one of NZ’s most daring alpine rescues. Among other life threatening injuries, his right leg was amputated below the knee. This hasn’t slowed William down at all. William is doing what he loves best, like; kayaking, bush walking, mountaineering, hunting, and exploring NZ’s beautiful backcountry.

William has a passion for the outdoors, adventure, education, fun, and for living life to the max. He has a Bachelor of Education with First Class Honours, and is currently a practising Primary School teacher by day. By night a highly sought after inspirational & motivational speaker. He is also the author of his popular autobiography; Every Day’s A Good Day.

In 2010, the William Pike Challenge Award (WPCA) was successfully launched at Hilltop School in Taupo. The WPCA is an outdoor activity based challenge program. A journey for New Zealand’s youth to learn and grow in the outdoors. A gateway to new experiences and opportunities. A way of fostering a passion for the Kiwi Culture, for living live to the max, and a means of developing a positive youth culture for the nation. 4 schools are participating in the WPCA this year. For 2013, 18 schools across New Zealand are set to provide their students with new experiences, life skills and learning through the WPCA. See the WPCA on facebook for 2013 WPCA schools in action!
